Because preparing for GCSE years isn’t only about revision
Year 10 and 11 bring a lot.
Increasing academic pressure, mocks and GCSEs, changing friendships, decisions about the future and growing independence.
And all of this is happening while young people themselves are going through one of the most significant developmental stages of their lives.
This October half term, Rising Minds is offering a small, interactive half-day workshop designed specifically for Year 10 and 11 students.
Not an exam revision session. Not more school. And definitely not three hours of sitting and listening.
This is time and space for young people to understand themselves better, recognise the strengths and resources they already have, and develop practical tools they can use as they navigate the months ahead.

What will we explore?
The workshop will combine coaching, positive psychology, adolescent neuroscience and practical activities to explore:
-
What are my strengths? What matters to me? What am I already good at that I might not recognise?
Young people will have opportunities to identify their individual strengths and think about how they can use them more intentionally in school and everyday life.
-
Why can motivation disappear? Why can emotions sometimes feel so intense? Why does pressure affect how we think and behave?
We'll explore what's actually happening in the developing teenage brain - in accessible, relatable language.
Understanding creates confidence. When young people understand more about what's happening internally, they have something they can work with.
-
What actually helps ME when I'm under pressure?
We'll explore practical ways of managing pressure, resetting and regulating and help young people recognise the resources they already have around and within them.
There isn't one wellbeing tool that works for everybody.
The important thing is beginning to discover what works for you.
-
What can I actually control? GCSE years can sometimes make young people feel as though life is happening to them.
We'll explore agency - recognising where they have choices, where they can take action and how small decisions can help them feel more in control of their own experience.
-
How can I think about what's ahead without feeling I have to have everything figured out?
We'll look at pressure, goals and the future in a way that feels manageable and realistic, helping young people focus on useful next steps rather than becoming overwhelmed by the bigger picture.

What will the workshop actually be like?
This isn't school in the holidays.
The session will be relaxed, supportive and highly interactive.
There'll be opportunities to talk, move, think, work with others, share ideas, try practical activities and learn from other young people.
Nobody will be forced to stand up and disclose personal information.
The aim is to create a space where young people can participate, connect and explore ideas in a way that feels comfortable for them.
And hopefully we'll have some fun along the way.
And there will be biscuits!!

Who is it for?
This workshop is designed for Year 10 and Year 11 students.
Your teenager does not need to be struggling to attend. In fact, that's an important part of why this workshop exists.
Rising Minds takes a proactive approach to adolescent wellbeing. Rather than waiting until confidence has significantly dipped, pressure has become overwhelming or a young person feels unable to cope, we can help them develop understanding and resources earlier.
It may be particularly useful for a young person who:
• Is beginning to feel the pressure of GCSE years
• Would benefit from greater confidence or self-belief
• Tends to overthink or put pressure on themselves
• Finds motivation difficult at times
• Would like practical ways of managing stress and pressure
• Is becoming more independent and learning to manage their own world
• Would benefit from recognising their strengths and capabilities
• Is actually doing absolutely fine — but would benefit from developing greater self-understanding and useful tools for what's ahead
The aim isn't to create young people who never struggle.
It's to help them become increasingly confident in their ability to navigate struggle when it comes.

Places will be deliberately limited to approximately 15 young people.
This isn't about delivering information to a large room.
The small-group format allows young people to contribute, ask questions, interact, learn from one another and experience a genuine sense of connection.
It also means I can create a relaxed environment where individual voices have space to be heard.
What will they leave with?
My hope is that every young person leaves knowing a little more about themselves than they did when they arrived. They'll take away:
• Greater understanding of their developing teenage brain
• Increased awareness of their individual strengths
• Practical tools for managing pressure and resetting
• A clearer understanding of what's within their control
• Strategies for approaching challenges without becoming overwhelmed
• Greater awareness of their own choices and agency
• A personal toolkit they can continue using beyond the workshop
But perhaps most importantly, I want them to leave with a stronger sense of:
“I know myself a little better. I have resources. I have choices. I can handle more than I sometimes think I can.”

About Hayley
Hi, I'm Hayley Buchan, founder of Rising Minds Coaching.
I've spent more than 25 years working alongside young people as a teacher, theatre practitioner, mindfulness teacher and coach
After leaving classroom teaching, I completed an MSc in Positive Psychology & Coaching Psychology and became an EMCC Accredited Coach and licensed mindfulness teacher.
Rising Minds brings that academic understanding together with decades of real-world experience of teenagers.
My approach is developmental rather than deficit-led.
I don't believe young people need to be “fixed”.
I believe they need opportunities to understand themselves, recognise what's already within them and develop the confidence and resources to navigate their own lives.
That's what this workshop is designed to give them.

Not sure if it’s right for your teenager?
That's absolutely fine.
If you'd like to ask a question before booking, please get in touch and I'll be happy to talk it through with you.
This isn't about whether your teenager “needs help.”
It's an opportunity to give them something we don't always make enough space for during busy GCSE years:
The chance to understand themselves, build their resources and discover more of what they're capable of.
